Andrew Waycaster continues to recover from injuries sustained last Friday after a man he stopped for a traffic violation outside Marion attacked him with a razor blade.
Waycaster shot and killed Daniel Boyd Cole, 22, in self defense.
Waycaster was attacked after placing Cole in the front seat of his patrol car to transport him to the courthouse. The trooper pulled Cole over for a seatbelt violation and then arrested him for having consumed alcohol while driving with an alcohol restriction on his license.
Democratic presidential contender Sen. Barack Obama campaigned in North Carolina Wednesday, making stops in Charlotte and Fayetteville.
In Charlotte, Obama took part in a town forum. Tickets to the forum sold out in less than two hours after going on sale Tuesday.
Obama and Sen. Hillary Clinton are engaged in a tight race to secure the Democratic presidential nomination.
North Carolina holds its primary May 6.
